My thyroid is being looked after. The rest of me still feels off.
Naturopathic care for thyroid concerns
Thinking about a naturopath for thyroid health? A thyroid diagnosis is one part of how you feel. Sleep, food, stress, digestion and your cycle are the rest. A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) reads your thyroid tests and looks at the rest with you. Your family doctor stays in charge of your thyroid care.

Does any of this sound like you?
Tick what applies. It's stored on your device, nowhere else.
- I've been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid.
- I've been told I have Hashimoto's, and I'd like to understand it better.
- My thyroid results are in range on treatment, and I'm still tired.
- I feel cold when everyone else is fine.
- My energy, mood or digestion changed around the same time.
- Thyroid problems run in my family, and I wonder about mine.
- I take supplements and I'm not sure they suit my thyroid medication.
- I want my family doctor and the ND on the same page.
What the ND looks at: everything around the thyroid.
- Your thyroid story. When it was found, what's been checked, and how you've felt since.
- Results over time. Every report you bring, read in order rather than one at a time.
- Food and digestion. What you eat and how your gut is doing.
- Sleep, stress and energy. How your week runs, and where it runs out.
- Cycle and life stage. Periods, pregnancy, perimenopause.
- What you take, and when. Medication and supplements, and the timing between them.
About Hashimoto's
Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune condition, where the immune system affects the thyroid. It's a common cause of an underactive thyroid. Diagnosis and thyroid medication stay with your family doctor or nurse practitioner. The ND looks at the rest of your health with you.
Tests, only if useful
Your family doctor may already be checking your thyroid. Bring those results, and the ND reads them in context. If something else is worth checking, the ND says why first. Ontario NDs can requisition certain lab tests, paid privately at lab cost and quoted before ordering.
How it goes
A free 10-minute call. Tell the ND about your diagnosis and what still feels off.
A plan that works around your care. It may include diet, supplements and lifestyle changes.
Follow-ups of 30 or 60 minutes. Timed around your next results where that's useful.
When it's a job for your family doctor
Decisions about prescribed thyroid medication stay with the clinician who prescribed it. With your permission, the ND shares findings with your family doctor. If something needs a medical doctor or nurse practitioner, the ND tells you plainly and refers you. If you feel suddenly unwell, see your doctor or call 911.
What affects the cost
You pay per visit, with no packages. Follow-ups are 30 or 60 minutes. Any lab work is at lab cost and quoted first. Each payment comes with an itemized receipt for extended health claims.
